Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain1 (Massage Therapy Act, 1991). It is a clinically-oriented health option that achieves undeniable results in the relief of an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.
Our ability to maintain balance is achieved through the sensory input of a few systems working together in our body. Our vestibular system along with information from our muscles and joints (proprioception) and our visual system provide sensory input. Sensory input is integrated by the cerebellum and the cerebral cortex which then leads to motor output signals determining the response of our body, coordinated balance. An issue in this pathway can lead to the symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, nausea, impaired balance, visual problems and fatigue.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy (PFPT) is a specialized branch of physiotherapy involving internal and external assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles.
A concussion is a complex injury to the brain that occurs due to trauma. Trauma may be a blow to the head, but is not necessary.
Telerehabilitation (telerehab or telehealth) is a way for you to connect with your physiotherapist virtually. Your one-on-one appointment may include patient education, new exercise prescription, updating, correcting, and reviewing current exercise programs, self manual therapy techniques and future treatment planning. The telerehab platform we use, Jane App, complies with Alberta’s HIPAA and PHIPA privacy regulations.
